October 26, 2020 - When we first interviewed Rick Smith, President & CEO of Tri Counties Bank back on April 20th we were only a month into the COVID-19 Stay at Home Order. Like many banking institutions, Tri Counties Bank was knee-deep in processing Protection Paycheck Program (PPP) applications for businesses. According to Rick, the goal at the time was "How many jobs can we save?" In the end, Tri Counties processed 2,900 PPP loans, totaling $436 million dollars, saving 44,000 jobs.

August 5th, 2020 - This week Butte County Public Health created and released specific flow charts (link below) for Butte County businesses in response to COVID-19. Today, Katy connected with Casey Hatcher, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Butte County Public Health so she could walk us through those flow charts to have a better understanding of what a businesses owner should do if there is exposure in their business. For instance, Casey explains how the flow chart helps understand those "once removed" contacts (someone who had been with someone who has been exposed).

August 4, 2020 - Katy Thoma President & CEO of the Chamber interviews Ben Winter, Director of Business Development & Sales for Transfer Flow Inc. Transfer Flow is a locally, family owned business (since 1983) manufacturing after market fuel tank systems, accessories, and OEM (original equipment manufacturer) custom parts. They are headquartered out at the Chico Municipal Airport and source their own materials from the U.S.

July 31, 2020 - Katy interviews Chris Constantin, Assistant City Manager, City of Chico to get an update about a number of things the City is doing to help local businesses. On July 13th when the Governor announced the State Health Officer’s Order and sectors listed have been closed to indoor operations until further notice. In addition, closures have been listed for counties on the State's monitoring list, which includes Butte County. These sectors must close unless they can be modified to operate outside or by pick-up.

July 22, 2020 - According to Colleen Cecil, Executive Director of the Butte County Farm Bureau, "it all starts at the farm." Katy shared screens this week with Colleen to get a better understanding of how the Butte County Ag community is doing and what challenges they are facing during this season. Colleen did mention a positive "silver lining" of the pandemic and it has to do with Butte County's next farming generation. As Butte County farm kids were home distance learning, they were also getting more time to help on the family farm and ranch. #stillfarming

July 8, 2020 - A pivot from Paradise to Chico. A pivot from scarves to masks. Jamie Kalanquin, owner of local business Thistle & Stitch has had to transition her business a few times in the last couple of years. A survivor of the Camp Fire, Jamie felt she could continue her business with the support of her community. She opened up her new gift shop here in Chico which has thrived since 2018. As COVID-19 struck, Jamie once again pivoted her business by making masks back in March without realizing how her entrepreneur skills would impact the community.
